Loft Types
Roof Light or Velux Conversion
Converting your existing loft space without changing the existing shape of your property. Adding velux windows to create natural light and ventilation.
Dormer
An extension to your roof giving more headroom and greater loft space. Dormers can be placed to the rear or side of your property. Dormers can accommodate windows and French doors to give light and ventilation to all rooms.
Mansard
This enables you to achive maximum loft space. The conversion goes up to the apex of the roof. Windows, French doors and Velux windows can be inserted into the mansard.
Hip To Gable
Extend your existing hip ended roof into a gable ended roof gives more headroom and greater loft space. A rear dormer can also be done with this type o f conversion.

Getting a loft conversion makes sense if you need the extra space. Very few people actually use their loft for anything other than storing old toys, furniture and junk. A loft conversion will make full use of that wasted space and it can enhance the value of your property. Many people with mid terrace Victorian houses are opting for conversions for these very reasons.

One of the most common types of loft conversions is the rear dormer conversion for mid terrace Victorian houses. This type of extension is most commonly used when people haven’t got enough room in their existing attic as it creates extra headroom.
This type of conversion involves a dormer window being put in as part of the exterior conversion. It is built at the rear of the roof to provide floor and living space and is generally a square section construction which maximises the overall living area. The extra space that you will be left with will have been created by adding extra depth to your existing roof.
One of the main advantages of a dormer conversion is that it’s cheaper than some other types of conversions, yet can increase the value of your house by 10 – 20 percent. Often you don’t even have to get planning permission for this type of conversion but it is advisable to find out about this first.
